Fogdog Chardonnay. Oh la, la.
Monday, February 14, 2011 at 17:01 I walked into Whispering Vine a while back, and slipped onto one of the bar chairs. “Haley”, I said, “what is there in a Chardonnay that I can enjoy without food. Just a nice ‘sipper’?” After she tossed a few softball questions about mouth feel and we dealt with my old reactions about too much oak in Chardonnay’s - we got down to tasting.
So many possibilities, but we still weren’t there. Oak, BTW, isn’t the worst thing to be there. I get it now. There are non-oaked white wines, but oak when done properly, can support and enhance other elements.
Then the lightbulb came on for both of us. “Here, try this”, she said with a knowing little grin.
I ran home with two bottles, and got them into the chiller, while I prepared to make a nice omelette for dinner. Popping open a cold bottle, and a quick splash into the glass, I put it to the nose test. I thought for a moment that I was having that odd religious experience. It was that amazing.
