How long can you freeze chicken?

HOW TO COOK TIP OF THE WEEK: Tender Time Limit for Chicken
We wondered how long you can store delicate chicken breasts in the freezer without comprising their tenderness. After buying several chicken breasts, we tested one using a Warner-Bratzler shear device—which measures tenderness by quantifying the force required to cut meat—and froze the others. We tested three of the previously frozen breasts for tenderness after two months and the remaining three after three months. The results confirmed our suspicions: Two-month-old chicken was nearly as tender as fresh chicken, while three-month-old chicken was tougher. Our recommendation is to freeze chicken for no longer than two months.
The key here is to rotate the items in your freezer. After all, it’s just a home freezer , not the arctic permafrost and you’re not trying to preserve a wooly mammoth.
