Is abortion legal in the United States?
Sunday, November 22, 2009 at 21:00 You wouldn’t think so by the sound and furor over a proposed health care reform bill possibly providing abortions for potential subcribers.
Is anybody else as outraged by this as I am?
The last time I checked, abortion was a legal medical procedure, guaranteed by the Supreme Court and available to anybody who requested it from a qualified medical professional. So what is this crap weaseling it’s way into the health care insurance reform bills that would essentially deny a woman the right to a legal medical procedure simply because she can’t afford to buy the cadillac insurance that would offer that benefit?
This is intentional, cynical and outrageous rationing of legal medical services by those who would also deny most any sort of basic human rights to the underserved and underprivileged.
Let them eat McDonalds.
When, oh when, will the thinking women of Congress stand up and tell these assholes that enough is enough.
As long as federal dollars can pay for Viagra then it can damn well pay for a woman’s choice not to bear a child.
This is a sexist agenda, supported by religion of course (isn’t it always), to keep women in their place and pregnant.
There isn’t a woman on the planet that ever ‘wanted’ to have an abortion. This isn’t something done in an offhand manner whether you’re a pastors wife or prostitute. It’s painful and humiliating, sad and brutal. It’s even more painful when you want the child, but find that it’s horribly deformed and can’t possibly live more than a few painful hours or days ourside the womb.
Abortion isn’t a perfect solution, but prevention notwithstanding, it’s the best women have for now. And, I for one, am sick and tired of the sexist among us punishing women and trying to send them back into the alley and to the coat hangars.
That this should be allowed to control part of the larger debate on a serious issue like health insurance reform is beyond outrageous. It’s simply a despicable ploy to further distract the simple minded from what the debate is really about.
Abortion, and now mammograms. The ‘loyal’ opposition is pulling out all the stops to defeat health insurance reform and give big for-profit insurance companies even more reason to deny essential medical services to the most underserved segment of the population: women.
It’s time we lit a new fire under Feminism and got freaking angry.
Either that or start leaving the unwanted children and dying breast cancer patients on the doorsteps of those who oppose safe and legal abortion, and would ration mammograms.
