Friday Fish Wrap: 10 July, 2009

Can we all let Michael Jackson rest in peace, and perhaps get a little peace ourselves from the biggest, wierdest funeral of the new century. You’d have thought Elvis, the pope and a brilliant, young new president had just died by all the media driven hoopla. I felt really sorry for his kids, being tearfully paraded on stage. That was obscene.

Jackson mourners crowd the barricades in Los Angeles.

I don’t know whether to think that the world has gone so mad that this is the biggest thing in their bankrupt lives, or that they’re using this as a sick way of diverting themselves from reality. Either way, it doesn’t speak well of their mental health. Yikes! They walk among us.

    Ensign parents pay off mistress

The sordid story that threatens to suck rising republican star, Sen. John Ensign, down the old pull chain convenience gets more complex by the day. Now it seems that his parents wrote checks of $12,000 to the wife, the cuckolded husband … and for good measure, both the kids. Whoa. Is that generosity or what? How do I get a piece of that?

The Senator from Nevada, John Ensign.

Well, that certainly explains everything, doesn’t it? The devil must have made him do it. But, I’ll bet you didn’t know about this aspect of the affair:

According to The Enduring Vision, (bringing you satire since 1927):

South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, recently believed to have gone missing on a long, solitary hiking trip — an acceptable and normal rite of passage for governors known as “I’ll be gone for a few days, figure shit out yourselves” — revealed today that he was actually in Nevada, having a torrid gay love affair with fellow Republican and Senator John Ensign.

“We were screwing each other, over and over again,” Sanford said tearfully at a press conference.

Political scientists say that marital infidelity is one of the best barometers modern society has in determining the political value of elected officials; staying faithful to one’s partner, as former President George W. Bush did, is a “true test of character, and therefore ability to govern,” says Janice Freed, researcher at the Cato Institute.

“President Clinton had an affair in office, while President George W. Bush did not,” Freed said. “I rest my case.”

It’s hysterically funny, but please, read the mavenandmeddler first before going on.

And, Palin just gets funnier, too

Didn’t we all know thatthe little dickens, Levi Johnston ( who knocked up Palins’ daughter - the older one, lest she pull a Letterman with me ) would turn coat for the money and offer a tell all?

Better yet, the newspapers in Anchorage are getting the real story on her cock and bull story about why she left office. As it turns out, the investigations into her ethics violations were not costing the state or the taxpayers any significant amount of money. It was the same sort of trumped up smoke and mirrors ‘accounting’ that we see on the nightly news these days. What a knee slapper.

I hear that Sarah is playing Nintendo Brain Games in order to get up to speed for a run for the White House in 2012. She is reportedly averaging about 40% on right answers, but only if Karl Rove is in the same room with a bullhorn.

Obama isn’t going to need to worry about any serious challenge from the right, come 2012. They’ll have all - literally - screwed themselves into the ground.

Pay no attention to that sham group behind the curtain!

Another sham winger-tea party group, Americans for Prosperity, have come out with the latest ‘Harry and Louise’ ad designed to scare the witless and uninformed into ‘just saying No’ to healthcare … something that might actually be in their best interest. These have just started playing, with different names inserted, here in northern Nevada.

It does seem that as Americans, we certainly wouldn’t want to have a serious debate with real, factual issues preferring emotion charged lies and hyperbole instead, and that’s what this type of ‘advertising’ is geared to. Actually, calling this dreck advertising insults good ad men and women everywhere… and I used to be one.

The ad is also running in 12 states, bringing pressure to bear on Sens. Mark Warner (D-VA), Ben Nelson (D-NE), Evan Bayh (D-IN), Mary Landrieu (D-LA), Tim Johnson (D-SD), Blanche Lincoln (D-AR), Kent Conrad (D-ND), Harry Reid (D-NV), Mark Begich (D-AK), Michael Bennet (D-CO), and Claire McCaskill (D-MO), It will air on both network and cable channels.

SourceWatch has the goods on this lowdown right wing front group, which is a successor to Citizens for a Sound Economy. They sure aren’t the Wizard of Oz. No sir.

Does anybody have a problem with organizations that are simply too chicken shit to stand up and say who they really are and declare what they believe it? I do. At least I know who runs organizations like MoveOn.org plus the what/why they believe what they do. Liberal groups do a really bad job of obscuring their funding sources.

And if you’re looking for another good place to get the real lowdown on right wing groups, check out Right Wing Watch, by People for the American Way.

Ah, well, that’s enough fun for one blog post. This weekend promises to be pretty cool. Got the crowd from the office converging on my place for drinks and pizza Friday, and then some kayaking is on tap - probably Sunday. I’ll let you know where exactly when I know, so you can rush up and get my autograph.

    Stay safe, stay cool.

    I’ll let myself out.
