    I usually don’t like to direct my readers away from the maven&meddler, but you must see these 48 amazing pictures- from all over the world - of the inauguration … large, as they are on the website I saw them - on boston.com.

    On January 20th, 2009, Barack H. Obama was sworn in as the 44th President of the United States of America - the first African-American ever to hold the office of U.S. Commander-in-Chief. The event was witnessed by well over one million attendees in chilly Washington D.C., and by many millions more through coverage on television and the Internet. Collected here are photographs of the event, the participants, and some of the witnesses around the world.

    It's official: Now the work begins

    I’m relieved in more ways than one. I’m relieved that Obama made it to this day without mishap or tragedy. I’m relieved that America is once again, peacefully, turning a corner in history. I’m relieved that after eight years of partisan rancor, we are amazingly being given another chance - a chance to stand tall and not just say “Yes, we can.” but walk the talk. I’m relieved that we now have an opportunity to turn away from the bitterness and turn toward, if we all work together, a brighter future.
