Labor Day: What's that about? A lot!
Sunday, September 6, 2009 at 17:12 With the enormous decline in union membership during the last few decades, with fewer families depending on a union wage and benefits, it’s very likely that an entire generation knows very little about Labor Day - other than as a day to shop the sales at the mall.
This is too bad, especially in light of the recent economic crisis and the struggle by so many Americans to just keep their heads above water financially, while top executives walk away from the wreckage of failed companies rich beyond belief.

“What does labor want? We want more schoolhouses and less jails; more books and less arsenals; more learning and less vice; more leisure and less greed; more justice and less revenge; in fact, more of the opportunities to cultivate our better natures.” Samuel L. Gompers
