That’s absolutely true, and I have it directly from theoriginal informationhoused at the Truman Library. For you youngsters … that’s President Harry S. Truman, the guy who took over when Roosevelt died. It was a bold plan, even for that time, but one that addressed urgent needs across the country.

Whatever happened to that plan?

Well, along came the American Medical Association hand in hand with the Cold War, as it was being whipped up by Republican rightwingers … like Joseph P. McCarthy.

Some things have changed ... a lot

There is a woman up at the retirement home where my Mother lives, here in Reno, who feels the need to tell Mom that our African ‘daughter’, Natacha just isn’t welcome up there, and we’re all very misguided and wrong to bring her up there for the community meals.

I wish my Mom could tell this woman what to do with her bigotry, but it always seems to blow right past Mom and catch her unawares. That happens when you’re in your nineties, I suppose.
