Aaah-choo! Take a dose of common sense, leave the Zicam alone!
Monday, January 3, 2011 at 21:01 I’m annoyed by another tee-vee ad depicting a woman sneezing and of course, here comes Zicam to the rescue. We need to insist that the schools start teaching some critical thinking - it’s in very short supply.
In 2009, the FDA issued a warning about using intra-nasal Zicam cold ‘remedies’. This action was taken with good reason.
This is what can happen by using Zicam - or similar zinc product inside the nasal passages:
But let’s go past this. A sneeze does not necessarily indicate onset of the common cold, and even if it did and you wanted to take Zicam or any zinc product, the data strongly suggest that zinc only reduces the duration of a cold by one day. Hmmmm. Is one lousy day worth the cost and the chance you take?
I still hear friends mistaking colds for flu and vice versa. And they never seem to understand about the power of allergies to make you feel like hell. When I have allergies, I get tired and feel lethargic, similar to colds. Allergies happen fast, colds happen more slowly.
Here’s the key, find that one symptom that stands out.
Flu (Influenza) - It hits you hard and fast. Like a ton of bricks.
