No, caffeine does NOT dehydrate you. Really.
Saturday, March 20, 2010 at 17:27 We’re constantly being preached at to not drink caffeinated drinks as they will dehydrate us. Totally not so. And that’s according to the UC Berkeley Wellness Letter, among others.
Caffeine promotes urination - briefly. But you don’t end up with a net loss of water from drinking caffeinated beverages.
In a study from the University of Nebraska Medical Center a decade ago, they took a group of healthy adults and looked at their hydration status - and whether they were or were not using caffeinated drinks like coffee.
The people all showed the same hydration status whether they were drinking water, coffee and tea, or fruit juice. No difference.
