More jobs in a greener Nevada? Could be so.

Lookout, it’s going to be raining $97.5 million in economic recovery funding from the U.S. Department of Energy for weatherization, the state energy program, and to provide cash assistance for geothermal development in northern Nevada.

This should be great news to Nevadans who are either unemployed or underemployed and trying to keep the foreclosure wolf at bay. The geothermal industry is beginning to really take off here in Nevada, and speaking for myself as the employee of a company who could really benefit from doing business with geothermal companies, I say ‘yippee’.

Boulder City’s ‘Solar One’ is the third largest solar thermal plant in the world with a 64-megawatt capacity. Potentially, the site could generate 2,000 megawatts, or enough power for about a half-million people.
