Riversimple : viable hydrogen car startup venture?

While I think my next new car will be a turbo diesel - and I’ll probably have to go clear to Europe to get it - this certainly makes one drool over other possibilities.

One of the points made in this video that I think is worthy of further consideration is the entire idea of car ownership.

When we buy a car, most of us don’t really care about impressing the Jones’ so much as just having reliable, cost effective mobility on a personal level, rain or shine.

If you could lease a highly fuel effecient, ultra low emissions car rather than buying it to watch it depreciate while parked in your garage, why wouldn’t you? Get tired of the color? Trade it for another.

I want one and I want it now.

Ron saw this on cable this afternoon as part of the Japan auto show. We were both blown away by the sleek lines of this all hydrogen fuel cell entry from Honda.

Too bad a big country like the United States is so far behind the power curve ( so to speak ) with hydrogen fueling stations - maybe we wouldn’t have been were it not for the smoke and mirrors of the campaign for ethanol pushed by the Bush administration. Norway has hydrogen fueling stations ringing the highways of the country now - they’re completely self- sustainable and about the size of a refrigerator.

Hmmmm. So much for American ingenuity.

The high-pitched whine as the 2009 Honda FCX Clarity’s “engine” spools up is a sound as futuristic as any to be heard aboard the Millennium Falcon. Except the Star Wars ship is all fiction and movie magic. The FCX Clarity is all fact. The future — green, fuel-efficient and petroleum-free — is here.
