Breast Cancer: Avon Foundation Breast Center at Johns Hopkins
Monday, October 5, 2009 at 08:10 I’ve been getting the Artemis newsletter on breast cancer topics and issues from Johns Hopkins for several years now, and have found it to be a highly educational, accurate and reliable source of information for women wishing to be aware of breast cancer, patients and survivors.
I also noticed a new resource this morning on their site, Johns Hopkins Patients’ Guide to Breast Cancer, now out in paperback on Amazon.com for $9.99.
Notice on the Look Inside feature, page 3, Selecting Your Surgical Oncology Team. This is the very thing that I harp on constantly. As a breast cancer patient you need not a surgeon who does breast surgery occasionally, or a plastic surgeon who does breast cancer surgery in between breast augmentation surgeries. You need a surgical oncologist who only does breast cancer related surgery. This is a huge piece of the puzzle that is missing all too often from the treatment plan. It can mean all the difference between success and a recurrence!
