Reno weighs in better than average
Saturday, March 20, 2010 at 16:50 Reno, and Nevada by extension, comes up lacking in so many measures that it’s become a sick local joke. We are at the bottom of each scale of good things like education, insured citizens, savings rates and such. We are at the top of so measures of the bad things like drinking, bankruptcy, divorce, dropout rates and such.
Finally, in today’s ever shrinking Reno Gazette-Journal, it seems that Reno comes in number 6th least obese among 187 communities across the country.
The other winners are in Colorado, Massachusetts and California. Our mild climate and ready access to some might good outdoor recreation may have a lot to do with it. Reno also scored higher on getting regular exercise and eating our fruits and veggies, too.
But think about it. The ‘least obese’?
Isn’t that kind of like ‘least likely to be hauled off to jail for spousal abuse’?
But, even a left-handed compliment is still a compliment.
Here’s the larger (LOL) picture. Roughly one-third of Americans are normal weight, one-third are merely overweight and one-third of ‘obese’.
